Juba, 23rd May 2017. The President of the Republic declares unilateral ceasefire cross South Sudan and directs army commanders to observe staring on Monday.
Salva Kiir Mayardit also directs the security agents to stop harassing any member of armed opposition, Radio Bakhita reports.
The unilateral ceasefire announcement is because of the calls by the international community, he says.
The president notes that ceasing hostilities will help to facilitate the national dialogue and delivery of humanitarian assistance.
President Kiir also calls on opposition leaders to embrace the spirit of unity in the country.
Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangement Monitoring Mechanism in February reported that cessation of hostilities was violated over 60 times since June 2016.
The research, the Mechanism conducted contains incidents of conflict, allegations of violations and breach of the permanent ceasefire by the two warring parties.
