Torit, 28th May 2018. Torit state authorities and some peace partners have conducted a meeting on Thursday to discuss and address outstanding security issue in the area.
The meeting was attended by representatives from UNDP, UNMISS civil affairs department among others.
Speaking to Radio Emmanuel after the meeting on Thursday the chairperson for state peace commission German Charles Ojok urges partners to identify community issues and intervene in timely manner before they escalate into a conflict level.
Charles says the coordination meeting helps government to monitor and evaluate the activities of the peace partners in the state.
“The main objectives or the aim of these meeting is together the we share the problem of the state to make sure that the state is free from conflict issues that usually arose among the communities or we have to understand the problem of the people and how to assist them so that we can at least if we have solution at hand so that together we can find solution for solving their problems so that they come with their programs because they say they are doing peace initiatives”
Charles reveals the most urgent issues discussed during the coordination meeting includes tribal conflict between Lohutok and ibahure in Lopa County and Omoruo and Bari in Bur Payam of Torit County.
He pointed out that the coordination meeting has resolve ways of holding conferences and assessment on the causes of the conflict among the communities that will able the peace partners to reconcile them.
“First we have the peace dialogue going on today at ileu that was what we agree in our meeting and UNMISS have to come in and sponsor the dialogue upcoming peace dialogue between Bari and Omoruo of loudu Bur payam which is Torit county which will also kick off on the 1 to the 2 of june and the 11th of june there will be training of county peace committee drawn up from the 12 counties and we as the peace commission we request for some support and we got printer from UNDP and 2 desktops computer and these are so far things we have done”
The chairperson advises communities in Torit state to protect peace and put it as a priority at all cost.
