Juba, 23rd October 2018. The Executive Secretary of IGAD warmly welcomes the appointment of Raila Amollo Odinga as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development by the Chairperson of the AU Commission on Saturday.
Ambassador Mahboub Maalim describes the critical role of infrastructure development as a key driver of progress and sustained economic development.
He acknowledges that the wise leadership, vast experience, knowledge and skills of the former Prime Minister of Kenya.
“This will go a long way in mobilizing our collective efforts towards the implementation of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa”, says Ambassador Mahboub.
He adds that the programme is a key pillar of the AU Agenda 2063.
The Executive Secretary also commends the AU Commission Chairperson for his wisdom in establishing this very important office, and in choosing Hon. Odinga as its first occupant.
IGAD stands ready to support the new High Representative in the fulfilment of his mandate, he pledges.
The Executive Secretary adds that IGAD will also remain fully engaged and committed to the realization of the continent’s massive infrastructure and development needs.
