DDR releases 128 former child soldiers in Yambio.

Yambio, 10th August 2018. The National Disarmament Demobilization Commission Reintegration Commission or DDRC confirms releasing 128 children formerly associated with armed oppositions in Yambio, Gbudue State, says representative.
Peter Garang Ngor told Anisa Radio that 596 were demobilized between February and April 2018 and two weeks ago 332 were released and in the third phase.
In 2018, the Commission managed to demobilized 1,056 children associated with South Sudan National Liberation Movement and SPLA-IO armed forces in the state.
Major General Chaplain Khamis Edward of SPLA Headquarters says it is the task of Ministry of Defense and SPLA to make sure that all child soldiers are released.
He advises that recruiting children into military is a crime and great violation of a child rights.
Major-General Khamis denies the allegations that SPLA and other armed oppositions in South Sudan have been recruiting children into military ranks in order to fight their enemies.
Grace Datiro, Acting Governor of Gbudue appreciates the DDR, UNICEF, UNMISS and Churches in the state for working hard with the government for peace.
DDR Commission in partnership with UNICEF and other UN Agencies have taken lead to ensure no children should be engaged in military activities in South Sudan.
