Juba, 26th April 2018. The Comboni Missionary Sisters renew their appeal for Pope Francis to reconsider visit to South Sudan because he can be a blessing to the peace process.
Sister Eulalia Capdevila, one of the Comboni Missionary Sisters from Rome, General Council says they visited the IDP camps in Juba and the displaced people insist that Pope Francis should visit the country.
She adds that the IDPs believe that Pope has the key to rescue South Sudan from the current situation.
Sister Capdevila notes that Pope’s visit is needed because he is one of the few people in the world who can bring international attention to listen to him.
Sister Elena Balatti, another Comboni Missionary working in South Sudan, supports the visit of Pope Francis.
She says Pope and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justine Welby wish to visit South Sudan to give a message of peace.
But it is not clear when he will visit the nation.
South Sudan’s Catholic Church earlier called on the Holy Father to visit the South Sudan, but was cancelled because of security concerns.
